Find My Tracker Expansion Card

The Find My Tracker Expansion Card is a 3D-printed expansion card that houses a Ugreen Find My-compatible tracker inside a Framework expansion card shell, providing Apple Find My network tracking for a Framework laptop¹. Published on July 12, 2026 by theopn, it gives a separation alert if the laptop is accidentally left behind¹.

Design

The project uses a Ugreen FineTrack tracker, chosen because Amazon review photos showed the PCB is easily accessible for battery replacement¹. After popping the cover off with the included SIM ejector tool, the PCB is secured by three plastic notches that can be chipped away with metal tweezers¹.

Speaker Loss

Removing the PCB from the tracker casing sacrifices speaker functionality, because the speaker's metal plate is glued directly to the original casing. There is no known clean way to preserve the speaker during disassembly¹.

The shell was printed from the "Framework Module Base" model on Printables (model 139879)¹. The PCB clicks into the notches of the base, holding it securely — though removal can be slightly nerve-wracking². An alternative "Framework Module Tray" from the same Printables model may work better, as it lacks the lid notches².

Print quality matters: low-resolution prints with rafts may not fit the expansion bay properly. A layer height of 0.15–0.2 mm is recommended for the side rails to match the model without bulging³.

USB-C Rechargeable Variant

For about $6 more, a version of the Ugreen tracker supports Google's Find Hub network and features USB-C charging¹. The PCB appears nearly identical to the battery version aside from the USB-C port and internal battery¹. The author suggests this version could pair with a USB-C expansion card shell, leaving it as a future project for the community¹.

Unlike standard AirTags, the Ugreen tracker does not support Precision Finding — it only provides a general location in Apple Maps, but still serves its purpose for separation alerts¹.
