Framework Missing Keys
Framework Missing Keys is a community project to add the four missing navigation keys — PgUp, PgDn, Home, and End — to the Framework Laptop 16 by building a custom input module using Framework's One Key Module developer program. Created by community member Matthew and documented on Hackaday, the project began in February 2026 after the creator received One Key Modules directly from Framework through the developer program.
FW16 PCIe x16 Expansion Bay
The FW16 PCIe x16 Expansion Bay is an open-source community hardware project by Ether-Nova that provides a fully powered PCIe x16 physical slot on a board designed to sit in the Framework Laptop 16's expansion bay shell. The slot provides x8 electrical (PCIe Gen 4) since the Framework 16 exposes a maximum of 8 PCIe lanes through its expansion bay interface, and can deliver up to 75W of power.
Input Connector Shim
The Input Connector Shim is a tiny PCB by CRImier (Arya) that plugs into the Framework mainboard's input connector, exposing an external power button, a USB 2.0 port, and connections for keyboard backlight, Caps Lock, and fingerprint LEDs — without sacrificing a USB-C port.
Input Cover Controller
The Input Cover Controller is an RP2040-based board by CRImier (Arya) that lets you reuse a Framework input cover (palmrest with keyboard and touchpad) as a standalone USB device. It connects to the keyboard matrix, touchpad, power button, fingerprint sensor, and LEDs — turning a spare input cover into a fully functional USB keyboard.
MXM GPU + Dell E-Port Expansion Bay Adapter
The MXM GPU + Dell E-Port Expansion Bay Adapter is an open-source community hardware project by WifiCable (GitHub: a-little-wifi) that combines an MXM GPU slot with a Dell E-Port dock connector on a single board designed for the Framework Laptop 16's expansion bay. The project was started when the Framework 16 was announced, but the author states it is "very unfinished" and they do not plan to continue development since they did not purchase the laptop.
OSHE Framework Desktop Usage Display
The OSHE Framework Desktop Usage Display is a front display panel for the Framework Desktop, developed by the Open Source Hardware Enterprise (OSHE) team at Michigan Technological University. The display mounts to the front panel of the Framework Desktop and shows real-time computer statistics such as CPU utilization, providing a simple, cheap, and good-looking proof of concept for a status display.
Project Pukeko
Project Pukeko is a community project to build a laptop with a full-profile mechanical keyboard based on the Framework Laptop 13 motherboard. Created by community member Keijo from Poland and announced in January 2026, the project taps into the USB lines exposed by the Framework 13 input cover interface to drive a custom PCB handling the keyboard, touchpad, and power button.
Touchscreen E-Paper Input Module
The Touchscreen E-Paper Input Module is an open-source hardware input module for the Framework Laptop 16, created by community member arthomnix. It features a touchscreen e-paper display that fits as a medium-sized input module, featured on the Framework 16 product page and at the Framework 2nd Gen Event.
